Through the Bloustein On-Line Continuing Education Program of Rutgers University, produced by the Professional Development Institute, at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, a menu of on-line professional development courses for land use professionals are available. Coming up next month is an on-line course on trends in land use law that, in the interests of full disclosure, this blogger has been asked to develop. The five week course, which can be completed at your desk at work or in the comfort of your own home, will examine a number of hot topics including RLUIPA, regulating adult business uses, workforce housing, climate change, takings and eminent domain. All required reading is posted to the course web site so there are no books to buy. The on-line training notion captured my attention as a cost-effective way to network and get up to speed on developing trends without the expense of airfare, hotels and incidentals. The course, which begins December 3, 2008, is eligible for up to 14 AICP continuing education credits including the law credit. Check out the link if you are interested in learning more about the opportunity. https://catalog.cerkit.rutgers.edu/course/display/8071
