New Book on Planned Communities

Professor Daniel R. Mandelker’s newest book, Designing Planned Communities, is now available.  The book provides a clear statement of the design issues that are critical to creating livable and well-designed planned communities. The book shows how design concepts for planned communities can be translated into effective design guidance by local governments. Examples of design standards are provided from comprehensive plans, design guidelines, design manuals, and planned community regulations. Chapter 1 focuses on the design problem in planned communities and Chapter 2 explains how to create designs for planned communities.  In Chapter 3, design standards in comprehensive plans, guidelines and manuals are reviewed. Chapter 4 addressed design standards in zoning ordinances, and the book concludes with a discussion in Chapter 5 on the constitutionality of design standards in planned community regulations.

The book can be ordered from Amazon.com here and is available for complementary download at:   http://law.wustl.edu/landuselaw/BookDPC/Designing%20Planned%20Communities.pdf
